OPPORTUNITY IN ADVERSITY: BUSINESS CONTINUITY PLANNING

Tuesday 06/01/2009

Is Malaysia’s Financial Services Industry Suffering from Complacency for the Unthinkable?

Business Continuing Planning (BCP) is an important factor for the Financial Services Industry (FSI) in ensuring that in the event of an operational disruption, financial institutions can swiftly carry out a partial disaster recovery plan. Yet, despite the availability of cutting edge technology and BCP expertise, Malaysia’s financial institutions have inadequate BCP in place, and are likely not fully equipped to handle the unthinkable.

Failure to plan for disruptions or disaster recovery, bear numerous risks such as data loss, cost of downtime and not to mention, souring customer loyalty. BCP isn’t just the responsibility of the IT personnel, but it should be at the top of the CEO’s agenda for the simple reason that disasters can bring institution-wide damage with negative repercussions on operability, business continuity and the company’s bottom line. Today, no self-respecting business can survive without IT and the CEO has to take a leading role in ensuring business continuity.

We would like to invite key media for an interview with Mr Aaron Tan Dani, Chairman, International Association of Software Architecture (IASA) Asia Pacific, to give insights into the importance of ICT-based solutions, especially in the realm of disaster recovery, otherwise known as Business Continuity Plan (BCP). Mr Tan Dani will also be sharing actual best practices case studies and samples of poorly contemplated BCPs, and how the latter have resulted into operational losses that could have been prevented or reduced.

IASA Asia Pacific is also pleased to have as a special guest in this interview,

YB Dato’ Kong Cho Ha,
Deputy Minister of Finance, Malaysia,

YB Dato’ Kong will be giving highlight to Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) guidelines on full and partial BCP requirements and its importance to strengthening Malaysia’s viable position as one of the region’s leading financial and economic hub.
