PETRONITA BRINGS ELECTRICITY TO 81 ORANG ASLI VILLAGERS

Some 40% of Orang Asli settlements in Tapah under the purview of JAKOA (Jabatan Kemajuan Orang Asli) still experience various socio-economic challenges due to limited access to basic infrastructure and social amenities, including access to electricity. The remote and sporadic locations of the settlements are the main contributors to this situation. For 81 Orang Asli villagers in Kampung Batu 20, Tapah, this will change as for the very first time in over 10 years they will experience the convenience of electricity, made possible through a joint effort between PETRONITA (PETRONAS’ Association of Wives and Female Staff), JAKOA and (UTP) Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS to install a solar system in the remote settlement.
Championed by PETRONITA, this corporate social investment (CSI) project have provided the opportunity for students from the Department of Fundamental & Applied Science, UTP, the opportunity of applying their skills in installing a Solar Photovoltaic System that will generate electricity 24 hours a day to the 13 homes in Kampung Batu 20. The project aims to improve the livelihood of the community and to minimize safety and health hazards from continuous usage of firewood.
The launch event will be officiated by YBhg Datin Dr. Azura Ahmad Tajuddin, President of PETRONITA and the wife of PETRONAS President and Group CEO, YBhg Datuk Wan Zulkiflee Wan Ariffin.
