  3RD MFPC NATIONAL FINANCIAL PLANNING TOURNAMENT 2016

Malaysian Financial Planning Council (MFPC) will be organizing the 3rd National Financial Planning Tournament starting from 7th October – 9th October 2016 at Pangung Percubaan, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), Serdang. The tournament is best described a platform for undergraduates to demonstrate their knowledge, skills and attitude towards financial planning; also as an initiative to promote greater awareness on importance of financial planning to the youths.

This year the tournament proper includes a financial planning video production in the tournament structure where all participating universities are required to submit a video project entitled “What is financial planning to you?” The organising committee is pleased to announce that 18 universities have successfully qualified to the tournament elimination round. The elimination round will be conducted on 8 October 2016, and four universities that score the highest marks will enter into the final Round on 9 October 2016. Total cash award and trophy to be given out amounting to RM 25,000 and the best player will be awarded a scholarship to pursue RFP/Shariah RFP programme in 2017.

The 3rd MFPC National Financial Planning Tournament is an initiative supported by Invest Smart, Securities Commission Malaysia (SC) and the Ministry of Youth & Sports (KBS). Strategic partners and supporting organisations are Private Pension Administrator Malaysia (PPA); Perbadanan Insurans Deposit Malaysia (PIDM), Life Insurance Association of Malaysia (LIAM); Agensi Kaunseling & Pengurusan Kredit (AKPK); Bursa Malaysia; Finance Accreditation Agency (FAA); National Association of Malaysian Life Insurance Filedforce and Advisers (NAMLIFA); Amanah Raya Berhad; Hasveston Group; A.D. Avallis Financial; Great Eastern Life Assurance (M) Berhad; The Malaysian Insurance Institute (MII) and Money Compass.

In conjunction with the tournament, a 1-day financial planning seminar will be organized on 7 October 2016. Industry experts and professionals will share their experience with the undergraduates. 10 information counters will also be set up for counselling and/or to promote financial services and products during the event. The panel of judges for the tournament are Mr. Michael Kok Fook On (Chief Judge); Dato’ Steve Ong; Dr. Chai Kon Lim, Dr. Husniyah binti Abd. Rahim@Abdul Wahab and Encik Norfazlinizam Rohamidi.

About Malaysian Financial Planning Council (MFPC)

MFPC is an independent body set up with the noble objective of promoting nationwide development and enhancement of the financial planning profession. MFPC provides an evolving set of Best Practice Standards and Code of Ethics that must be adhered to by Registered Financial Planner (RFP) and Shariah RFP designees. This requirement is aimed at ensuring that the public will be served with the highest quality of financial planning services. MFPC was registered on 10th of March, 2004 under the Societies Act, 1996.

The Registered Financial Planner (RFP) programme was launched by the previous Governor of Bank Negara Malaysia, YBhg. Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Dr. Zeti Akhtar Aziz in November 2002; while the Shariah RFP was officially launched by YB Datuk Seri Haji Mohamed Khaled Nordin, Chief Minister of Johor Darul Ta’zim.

The RFP designation has been approved by Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) as the prerequisite qualification to apply for the Financial Advisers’ License and Financial Advisers’ Representative License. RFP designation has also been duly approved by Securities Commission Malaysia for the application of the Capital Markets Services License (CMSL) in view of the introduction of the Capital Markets and Services Act 2007.
