LAUNCHING OF MTDC'S HALAL TECHNOLOGY DEVELOPMENT FUND

About MTDC
MTDC is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Khazanah Nasional Berhad and has been the key player in commercialisation and management of government funding since the 7th Malaysia Plan.
The company was set-up in 1992 to promote the adoption of technologies by local companies via commercialisation of local R&D or acquisition of foreign technologies. Since then, MTDC has been a key player in commercialisation and management of Government funds. Currently, MTDC manages six funds amounting to RM 1.8 billion, specifically the Commercialisation of R&D Fund (CRDF), Technology Acquisition Fund (TAF), Halal Technology Development Fund (HTDF), Business Start-Up Fund (BSF), Business Growth Fund (BGF) and Business Expansion Fund (BEF).
Besides fund management, MTDC also provides an integrated support services for technopreneurs which includes advisory services such as mentoring, soft-landing, branding, fund raising, international collaboration and networking. MTDC’s commercialisation ecosystem has provided funding and assistance to over 500 technology-based companies that are involved in a wide range of activities ranging from the agricultural sector to ICT.
In the 9th Malaysia Plan (9MP) and 10th Malaysia Plan (10MP) alone, companies that were recipients of MTDC’s Commercialisation of Research and Development Fund (CRDF) and Technology Acquisition Fund (TAF) generated a total of RM1.974 billion in sales and contributed towards the creation of 5,261 new jobs and a total of 465 Intellectual Property Rights were filed.
About MTDC Halal Technology Development Fund (Halal Fund)
Halal Technology Development Fund (Halal Fund) is specifically designed to nurture and finance Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) for long term growth and export-driven through halal-compliant activities. The primary focus of Halal Fund is to provide companies with access to the best advisory services and networks. The activities include halal product development and processes, services and regulatory compliance. The activities are part of an effort to overcome the barriers and hurdles to bring halal products/services to market. Halal Fund also provides an opportunity for companies to create innovation partnership with university/research institution/halal related agencies or solution providers to address technical challenges in the development of new halal products/services. There are two categories of Halal Fund Halal namely Halal Fund 1 and Halal Fund 2.
Target Group
Halal Fund 1: SME from small to medium companies with the application of technology in halal related products/services for local market.
Halal Fund 2: SME from medium to large companies with the application of technology in halal products or services for export market.
Eligibility Criteria to apply
- Small and Medium Enterprise (SME).
- The company is incorporated under the Companies Act 1965.
- The company must be at least 60% owned by Malaysian(s).
- The company has already obtained halal certification from Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM).
- The company must not be a subsidiary of a GLC/MNC.
- The products or services have already been exported.
Quantum of Funding
Halal Fund 1: Maximum of up to RM2.0 million or 70% of the total project cost, whichever is lower.
Halal Fund 2 : Maximum of up to RM4.0 million or 70% of the total project cost, whichever is lower
Funding Period
4 years
