Program Background
The memorandum will confirm the collaboration between Permint Plywood Sdn Bhd (PPSB) which is one of the Terengganu state-owned companies and Etlingera Sdn Bhd. Etlingera Sdn Bhd is a company formed under MTDC's Symbiosis programme in early 2012 and has grown under the CRDF fund.
PPSB produces veneers for plywood and woodchips for fiber making and also commercially manufactures agarwood products where PPSB owned 1,000 trees. Etlingera will be the technology provider for inoculation of agarwood trees and also responsible for harvesting, transportation, processing of crude oil (MPG), leasing fees, documentation, CITES certificates, packaging, laboratory testing, marketing and sales of the resulting products.
Etlingera inoculum is the result of UPM research which has been tested and proven to produce higher agarwood oil and a stronger aroma that lasts up to 20 hours. The technology used is naturally micro based on good organisms to stimulate the resin's response to the hardwood to produce a quality agarwood. The inoculum used plays a role in producing the mimic to wild core of the nearly extinct quality of the wild agarwood.
