THE INTERNATIONAL DAY FOR TOLERANCE CELEBRATION 2019 YOUTH DEBATE "THIS HOUSE RESOLVES THAT SUSTAINING A PEACEFUL MALAYSIA IS BASED ON TOLERANCE"

Institute of Islamic Understanding Malaysia (IKIM) and the Department of National Unity and Integration (PERPADUAN) will be organizing The International Day for Tolerance Celebration 2019 Youth Debate “This House Resolves That Sustaining a Peaceful Malaysia is Based on Tolerance”.
The details of the event are as follows:

The main objectives of this programme are i) to use the debate platform to discuss tolerance and the responsibilities of citizens especially, youth; ii) to promote tolerance as an important value in society and correct misunderstandings caused by extreme and intolerant perceptions and behaviour towards other cultures; and iii) to celebrate tolerance with the aim of strengthening the core values of harmony and peaceful coexistence.
International Day for Tolerance is celebrated annually on the 16th of November. It was introduced by the United Nations through the General Assembly Resolution no. 51/95 which called upon its member states to observe the International Day for Tolerance. The celebration of International Day for Tolerance serves as a commitment to strengthening tolerance by fostering mutual understanding among cultures and peoples. Tolerance must be understood as an act of humanity and a universal value that needs to be promoted and celebrated. It has the utmost potential to help prevent conflicts and violent extremism caused by ignorance and disrespect towards differences and diversity of societies in the world today. For 2019, IKIM and the Department of National Unity and Integration (PERPADUAN) will be co-organizing a Youth Debate among students of Higher Learning Institutions as the Malaysian contribution to the 2019 International Day for Tolerance Celebration.
