2017 FIM ASIA SUPERMOTO CHAMPIONSHIP MOVES TO INDONESIA

Thursday 21/09/2017

Manahan Stadium in Central Java to Host Round 2

KOTA SURAKARTA, Indonesia, Sept 21 (Bernama) -- With the completion of the curtain raiser at the Thailand Circuit Motorsport Complex on 2 and 3 September 2017, Manahan Stadium in Central Java will now receive the baton to host the second round of the championship season on 14 and 15 October 2017. These dates will be a move from the previously announced schedule of 7 and 8 October 2017.

“Our inception into Indonesia last year was a success with tens and thousands of spectators witnessing the biggest and hottest SuperMoto race in Asia. I believe that our location at Manahan Stadium this year will increase the already outstanding number of turnouts for the race. I am also pleased that the Mayor of Surakarta, Mr. Francis Xavier Hadi Rudyatmo, has given his full blessings for us to host the race in his city,” said Satheswaran Mayachandran, CEO of Asia Supersports Group.

Manahan Stadium is a multi-purpose stadium in Surakarta, Central Java, Indonesia which had hosted few of the biggest sporting events in Southeast Asia, namely the 2011 ASEAN ParaGames. With a capacity of 35,000 spectators and a strategic location in the city centre, the stadium’s vicinity will be transformed into an area for the SuperMoto showdown by top riders across the world.

Team Smart Samarinda D’Jagung’s Farhan Hendro #162 and Pedro Wuner #7 will represent Indonesia in the championship. Both riders showed stunning performance in the opening round at Thailand by securing their spots at the top 10 of the overall standing. Newcomer Farhan has proven to be a rising star in the championship with his daring riding skills, while Pedro’s experience can lead him to top the Indonesia round at home.

“We are sincerely pleased with the outcome at Thailand, but I know we can perform better in the championship after experiencing the talents on track. We have been observant and hopefully, can utilise that knowledge as an advantage for us to bring the trophy home,” said Pedro.

The 2017 FIM Asia SuperMoto Championship grand finale will be held on 16 and 17 December 2017 at Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
