MITI, MIDA AND CIDB LAUNCH IBS & BUILDING MATERIALS SUPPLY CHAIN 2017/2018 DIRECTORY

Wednesday 15/11/2017

Directory to profile over 4,000 companies and relevant stakeholders in Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 15 (Bernama) --
The Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI), Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA) and the Construction Industry Development Board, Malaysia (CIDB) have jointly launched the Industrialised Building Systems (IBS) and Building Materials Supply Chain 2017/2018 Directory (“the Directory”) today, which, with the contact details of over 4,000 companies and relevant stakeholders acts as a comprehensive point of reference for the construction industry particularly in the area of IBS and building materials.

Co-developed by MIDA and CIDB, the Directory details industry players in the local building materials space, including those of manufacturers, suppliers, contractors, as well relevant stakeholders; thus, capturing the entire ecosystem of local building material players in its catalogue.

The Directory was launched by YB Dato’ Sri Mustapa Mohamed, the Minister of MITI. Also present were Dato’ Azman Mahmud, Chief Executive Officer of MIDA, Tan Sri Dr. Ir. Ahmad Tajuddin Ali, Chairman of CIDB, and Dato’ Ir. Ahmad ‘Asri Abdul Hamid, Chief Executive Officer of CIDB.

“The introduction of the IBS & Building Materials Supply Chain Directory is indeed timely. This Directory, which is a point-of-reference containing the contact details of our local building materials suppliers and manufacturers, is a good initiative undertaken by MIDA and CIDB to enhance the reach and network of our local players. I urge all stakeholders to leverage on this directory and grab the opportunities for their business growth,” said YB Minister of MITI.

During his opening remarks, Dato’ Azman Mahmud, CEO of MIDA said “MIDA and CIDB have successfully collaborated on various engagements as part of the Construction Industry Transformation Programme (CITP) 2016-2020. Besides co-chairing in the CITP Industry Working Group meetings, MIDA is involved in jointly accelerating the adoption of IBS, mechanisation and modern practices with CIDB. The launching of this directory today reflects our commitment towards this goal as it will help to promote and accelerate the adoption of IBS and showcase the capabilities of local building material manufacturers. Hence it is a leap in the right direction for the construction industry.”

The IBS and Building Materials Supply Chain 2017/2018 Directory is expected to help efforts to enhance productivity and efficiency in the industry by narrowing the gap between local building material manufacturers, suppliers and professional services, developers, project delivery partners (PDPs), contractors and stakeholders in the construction industry. The introduction of the Directory will also provide more opportunities for local building material companies to expand and grow their businesses, and would even provide avenues to venture into overseas markets.

“Increasing the adoption of IBS supports the Construction Industry Transformation Programme (CITP), which identifies modern construction techniques as one of the key initiatives to increase productivity of the sector by two-and-a-half times. Furthermore, the use of locally-sourced materials will help to create and maintain a sustainable supply chain, therefore continuing to meet the requirements and demands of the construction sector,” said Tan Sri Dr. Ir. Ahmad Tajuddin Ali, Chairman of CIDB.

“Moreover, with more opportunities for local Malaysian companies to grow their business both domestically and globally, there will be positive spill over benefits for the Rakyat, in terms of jobs and other economic opportunities,” he added.

According to the KPIs identified under the CITP’s strategic thrust of Productivity to propel the IBS supply chain via economic mechanisms, 100 new IBS component manufacturing plants are to be established by the year 2020. As at June 2017, 46 new IBS plants have been registered in the country.

Parties involved in the development of the IBS and Building Materials Supply Chain Directory include MIDA, CIDB, IBS and Building Materials companies and related associations.
