MIDA URGES MORE COMPANIES TO LEVERAGE I-INCENTIVES PORTAL - A TOOL TO ENCOURAGE INDUSTRIES TO TAKE RISK IN HIGH QUALITY INVESTMENTS

Tuesday 20/03/2018

KUALA LUMPUR, March 20 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA) urges more companies, both foreign and local, to leverage on its recently launched i-Incentives Portal. It is a one-stop centre for comprehensive information on all incentives offered by various Ministries and Agencies concerning the manufacturing, services and primary sectors. The portal is very dynamic in nature as it is responsive to announcements of new incentives and assistance schemes offered by the Government, thus allowing the business community to obtain real time information on the latest available facilities.

Launched during the MITI (Ministry of International Trade and Industry) Day on 26 February 2018, the i-Incentives Portal currently features 121 incentives schemes that are managed by 12 ministries and 28 government agencies. About 55% of these incentives cater to the services sectors, followed by manufacturing at 33% and the primary sector at 12%. These incentives include tax exemptions, grants, soft loans and other forms of incentives such as equity financing, regional establishment status and training and facilitation programmes.

YBhg. Dato’ Azman Mahmud, Chief Executive Officer of MIDA said, “We understand that accessibility of information at fingertips is indispensable to assist investors in making well-informed investment decisions. Thus MIDA, through our Incentive Coordination and Collaboration Office (ICCO) collaborated with key stakeholders in developing the i-Incentives Portal that truly underscores our unwavering commitment in promoting greater transparency and enhancing the ease of doing business in Malaysia.”

“Competitive incentive offerings will continue to be one of the strategic tools to attract new breed of quality investments.  These incentives, especially for high impact and strategic businesses, are aimed to encourage and support industries to take risk and move up the value chain.  With this portal in place, it will also enable for a more effective and performance-driven incentive management system, thereby fortifying a cohesive incentive strategy in achieving the national investment and economic agenda,” concluded Dato’ Azman.

The i-Incentives Portal is accessible via https://incentives.mida.gov.my. Alternatively, companies that wish to obtain one-on-one advisory service on this portal and its incentives are welcome to meet the ICCO team at the Showcase on Innovation for Productivity (SHIP) that will be held on 22 March 2018, from 8.00 am – 5.00 pm at the MITI Tower, Kuala Lumpur.
