PUTRAJAYA, Aug 15 (Bernama) -- The Ministry of Primary Industries wishes to refer to an article in The Sundaily dated 13 August 2018 entitled “BN Govt missed chance to sell more palm oil to China: Teresa Kok”,
which quoted an interview that appeared in Nanyang Siang Pau.
The Sundaily article stated that the Minister
“…found letters addressed to a unit under her ministry by Chinese buyers wishing to top up their purchases of the commodity but the unit concerned did not respond to the requests”.
The Ministry of Primary Industries wishes to correct the report as the reference the Minister made was in regard to the failure by the company that was involved in the trade talk with China for being slow in responding or following up with China’s intention to purchase palm oil. The Minister was, by no means, referring to the unit in the ministry.
The Minister has always acknowledged that the Ministry’s officers, the Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB) and Malaysia Palm Oil Council (MPOC) have been working relentlessly to promote palm oil throughout the world. Export of Malaysian palm oil and its products have seen an increase in volume by 8.6% to 12.44 million tonnes from January to June 2018 as compared to 11.45 million tonnes during the same corresponding period in 2017.
