Takaful provider’s first of its kind coverage for children with learning disabilities and their parent or legal guardian 

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 3 (Bernama) -- FWD Takaful Berhad (“FWD Takaful”) today introduced FWD SpecialCare Direct, a unique online Takaful plan designed to cover children with learning disabilities associated with Autism Spectrum Disorder, Tourette’s Syndrome and Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. The regular contribution plan will also provide coverage for their parent or legal guardian.

This plan requires no underwriting and guarantees acceptance for both the child and parent or the legal guardian. There is no coverage waiting period for the child, and a one-year waiting period is applicable for the parent or legal guardian.

Typically, children diagnosed with learning disabilities face challenges in getting protection plans. Therefore, we’re creating this opportunity by giving them easy access to an affordable online protection plan which provides meaningful benefits for both child and parent or the legal guardian.”

With a minimum coverage term of five years, FWD SpecialCare Direct is offered together with the FWD Compassionate Rider - a complimentary rider which provides a funeral benefit of RM10,000 for the child.
 
FWD SpecialCare Direct has three (3) plan options to choose from with a sum covered of RM25,000, RM50,000 or RM100,000 and a lump sum benefit of RM2,500, RM5,000 or RM10,000 respectively. It offers the following benefits:
· 100% of the sum covered is payable upon the child’s death;
· 100% of the sum covered is payable upon the parent’s death or Total Permanent Disability (TPD) due to natural causes or 150% of the sum covered due to accidental causes;
· a lump sum benefit upon the child attaining age 18, provided the certificate is in-force for at least 60 months; otherwise, it’s payable upon certificate expiry;
· waiver of future contributions where the certificate will continue with the coverage for the child in the event the parent or legal guardian passes away or is diagnosed with TPD.  
 
The plan is offered to children with learning disabilities aged 4 to 20 years old, with parent or legal guardian aged 17 to 55 years old. The coverage expires once the child reaches 25 years of age or the parent or legal guardian reaches 75 years of age, whichever is earlier.
