CYBERJAYA, Nov 26 (Bernama) -- Following the announcement of electric vehicle (EV) incentives, and greener mobility initiatives by the government through the Budget 2022 and 12th Malaysia Plan (RMK-12), more players from the industry at all levels - OEMs, parts and components and after-market services - have responded positively to the government's call to push the automotive sector towards electrification.
 
Many automotive businesses have displayed their interest in this new sector, and are working towards more collaboration with the government, through agencies such as MARii (an agency under the Ministry of International Trade and Industry MITI).
 
Since the Budget 2022 announcement just one month ago, two major component manufacturers, namely EP Manufacturing Berhad (EPMB) and Pecca Group Berhad have formalised collaborations on the development of technologies revolving around EV production, either at the vehicle, component or system levels.
 
MARii's collaboration with EPMB will see the component manufacturer venturing into the production and localisation of 2-wheel and 4-wheel EVs, development of a charging network and an application for a Super Delivery Ecosystem, to be incorporated with an Electronic Payment system.
 
On the other hand, Pecca will collaborate with MARii to offer more competitive products to global brands. This includes the enhancement of operational efficiency of Pecca’s business process by integrating Industry 4.0 systems, which will better prepare and fully equip the group to meet the requirements of new customers.
 
In addition, both parties agree to explore the development of automotive manufacturing capabilities for an expanded variety of vehicle parts - including EVs, its localization and after sales support ecosystem.

In August 2021, MARii and the Malay Vehicle Importers and Traders Association of Malaysia (PEKEMA) inked a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) towards the development of Electric Vehicle (EVs) infrastructure, as well as strengthening the EV value chain in Malaysia. This MoA includes a plan to set up 1000 EV charging station around the country by 2025, while co-developing connective applications that include e-payment, charger locators, battery management systems and service centre networks for the charging ecosystem.
 
The development activities will be coordinated through an Electric Vehicle Center of Excellence to ensure a harmonized and integrated charging ecosystem that caters to the demands of future e-mobility users.
 
MARii has always opened its doors to working with numerous car manufacturers, motorcycle assemblers, commercial vehicle builders, charging station providers, and local component manufacturers on the various aspects of developing a complete ecosystem for electric vehicles in Malaysia.
 
This ecosystem is important to push Malaysia towards electrification and connected mobility - as it would require a larger amount of resources, expertise and technologies. The collaboration and participation of all sectors of the technology economy is essential to make this a reality.
